Japanese incense art has a long history
The Japanese have long embraced incense culture in daily life—enjoying its scent while drinking tea, playing the koto, painting, or socializing. Incense was even used for bathing. By the Heian period, it was already popular, and in the Edo period, it became one of the "three refinements" of Japanese aesthetics, alongside flower arrangement and the tea ceremony.
